Silver & Rose Gold Goat for Anna
Some commissions are planned. Others come about in the most unexpected ways.
When Anna from the USA got in touch, she was only meant to be looking after a friend’s goat for a few days. But as anyone who has spent time with animals will know, sometimes a few days is all it takes.
You fall a little bit in love.
Anna wanted to create something special for her friend. A tiny necklace that would capture this little goat and all of its charm. Not something generic, but something that really looked like that goat.
And I have to admit, this was a first for me.
I have made a lot of dogs over the years, along with the occasional cat, sheep and cow, but this was the first custom goat necklace I had ever been asked to create. That made it even more interesting. Every animal brings its own challenges, and I was excited to see how this one would come together.
Anna sent me lots of photos and videos, which I always love. You start to get a real sense of the animal, not just how they look, but how they move, how they hold themselves, the little expressions that make them unique.
And this little goat had plenty of character.
Straight away, I knew there were two features that had to be right. Those long, soft ears and that sweet pink nose. Without them, it simply would not have been the same animal.
I created the piece in sterling silver with touches of rose gold, keeping it small and wearable, but still full of detail. The ears were shaped carefully so they felt soft and natural, not stiff. And for the nose, I added a delicate touch of rose gold to bring warmth and life into the piece.
It is often those smallest details that make the biggest difference.
When the necklace was finished, I remember smiling at it. There was something so gentle and full of personality about it. A little goat, captured in silver, from what started as a few days of looking after a friend’s pet.
I love commissions like this.
They remind me that it does not always take years to form a connection with an animal. Sometimes it happens quickly, quietly, and leaves just as strong a mark.
If you would like your own much loved animal recreated in silver, whether dog, cat or something a little more unusual, I would love to see your photographs.
If you’ve ever thought about having a piece of jewellery made to capture your pet’s quirks, I’d love to hear from you. You can read more about my process here: Custom Pet Jewellery.
I only take on a limited number of custom orders, so if you’ve got an idea, please send me a photo of your animal and I will guide you through the whole process - with no obligation.
Who knows? Your beloved pet could be the next star of my workbench.
