Mitch and Tulip, Two Very Different Dogs

When Jannine contacted me, she wanted two little dog charms made to celebrate her much-loved dogs, Mitch and Tulip.

The two couldn't have been more different, which made this commission particularly fun to work on.

Mitch is a brown and white, wiry Jack Russell Terrier, and Jannine described him as a very characterful puppy. Looking at his photographs, I could see exactly what she meant. He had one of those little faces that was full of personality.

Then there was Tulip. Tulip has the most beautiful golden colouring, but it was her eyes and ears that really caught my attention. Jannine specifically asked me to make sure I captured her big eyes and those very distinctive ears, with one standing up and the other hanging down.

Those little quirks are exactly what I love about making custom jewellery.

Jannine loved them, which of course made me very happy. But what I particularly loved was what happened later that year. Jannine came back to me for another custom dog charm, this time as a 50th birthday gift for a friend.

I always think it's a lovely compliment when someone comes back for another piece. It means they trusted me with their own dogs and loved the finished result enough to want to give one of my little dog portraits to someone else.

So Mitch and Tulip weren't the end of the story. They were the beginning.
