Holly: The Sweetest Border Terrier
When Angela commissioned me to create a necklace of her beloved Border Terrier, Holly, there was one detail she mentioned again and again. Holly's head tilt.
Like many Border Terriers, Holly was full of character, but she had a particularly quirky way of sitting with her head tipped slightly to one side. It was one of those little mannerisms that instantly made her her. The sort of thing that family and friends recognised immediately and smiled about.
So when I began designing the necklace, I knew that capturing Holly's likeness wasn't just about recreating her face. It was about recreating her personality. The head tilt had to be there.
Using Angela's photographs as inspiration, I sculpted Holly in sterling silver and 22ct gold, carefully incorporating the distinctive angle of her head into the design. It was a small detail, but often it's the smallest details that make all the difference.
Border Terriers have wonderfully expressive faces, with their bright eyes, whiskery muzzles and alert expressions. Holly was no exception. I spent time refining each feature, making sure the finished piece reflected not only how she looked, but the character that Angela saw every day.
The warm tones of the 22ct gold added beautiful contrast against the silver, helping to highlight Holly's features and bringing an extra touch of luxury to the piece.
One of the things I love most about creating custom pet jewellery is that every commission tells a different story. Some clients want to remember a pet they have lost, while others want to celebrate a much-loved companion who is still very much part of everyday life.
In Holly's case, it was all about preserving the little details that made her unique. The head tilt. The expression. The personality.
Because years from now, Angela won't just see a beautiful silver and gold necklace. She'll see Holly, sitting exactly as she always did, with her head tilted to one side, listening intently and looking utterly adorable.
If you would like to have your own dog recreated in silver, even from older photographs, I would love to see them. You can read more about my process here: Custom Pet Jewellery.
Who knows? Your precious friend might just be the next one I’m smiling about at my workbench.
