Gofio: A Stunning Long Haired Chihuahua Necklace for Carmen
When Carmen contacted me from the Canary Islands, she wanted a necklace of her beloved Chihuahua, Gofio.
Looking through her photographs, I could immediately see why she adored him. He had that unmistakable Chihuahua expression, bright, alert eyes and a tiny face full of personality.
As with all my commissions, I wasn't simply trying to recreate what Gofio looked like. I wanted to capture what made him Gofio. The shape of his ears. The expression in his eyes. The little details that would allow Carmen to recognise him instantly.
For Gofio's necklace, I worked in sterling silver before finishing the piece with a luxurious layer of 22ct gold plating. The warm golden tones suited him beautifully and highlighted the delicate details of his face.
Creating small breeds can be surprisingly challenging. Every feature is tiny, and even the slightest change can alter the character of the finished piece. I spent time refining Gofio's features to ensure his personality shone through.
Once the necklace was complete, Gofio began his journey home. Unfortunately, he decided to spend much longer than expected in a postal depot in Madrid, leaving both Carmen and me wondering when he would finally arrive!
“I finally got Gofio! I like it very much!”
Thankfully, he eventually made it safely to the Canary Islands. Soon afterwards, Carmen sent me a message which, translated from Spanish, read:
"I finally got Gofio! I like it very much!
FINALLY!
Cheers!"
It may be one of the shortest reviews I've ever received, but after the long wait, it said everything that needed to be said. Little Gofio had finally made it home.
