Jim Beam & Fluffy: Two Very Special Dogs
When Linda got in touch, she had already decided that she wanted to create something special for her family.
The first three photographs she sent were all from the same family, taken around the same time. There was Husky, the daddy, and his two offspring, Jim Beam and Fluffy.
Jim Beam had a particularly memorable little feature. He had been attacked by one of his siblings and was left with a distinctive droopy ear. It was one of those imperfections that made him completely, unmistakably himself, and Linda wanted that detail captured in the jewellery.
Fluffy was Linda's sister's dog, and sadly she had lost him a few years ago. Linda thought a pair of my earrings would make a lovely gift for her sister, giving her something tangible to remember him by.
So Linda commissioned two pairs of earrings, one featuring Jim Beam and one featuring Fluffy.
I made both as little silver dog portraits with touches of gold, mounted on secure silver drop earring fastenings. I love making drop earrings for custom pets because they give the little faces room to move and catch the light, while still keeping them small enough to wear every day.
With Jim Beam, that droopy ear was particularly important. It's funny how the things we might normally think of as imperfections can become some of the most precious details when it's your dog.
And Fluffy's pair was made with the same care, transforming those photographs into a lasting little reminder of a much-loved family dog.
“They are lovely!”
When Linda received the earrings, she messaged simply:
“They are lovely!”
I hope these pieces become. little pieces of family history that can be worn, treasured and passed down.
