Dot: A Little Dog with a Lot of Character
I’ve had such lovely feedback about my custom design service recently, and so many people have told me how much they enjoy hearing about the different pieces I’m working on.
So today I thought I’d introduce you to Dot, Kate’s dog. Kate’s friend Claire contacted me because she wanted to give Kate a really special birthday present. She asked if I could make a necklace featuring Dot and sent me some photographs to work from.
I instantly knew Dot was going to look amazing in silver.
There are some dogs where one little detail makes them completely unmistakable, and Dot has several!
The way she sits is instantly recognisable, and then there are those lovely black spots on her ears and chest. You can see exactly where her name came from!
But there was another really important detail that I needed to capture. Little Dot has one eye. And although that might sound like a small detail, it's actually a huge part of what makes Dot, well, Dot. When I'm making a custom piece, I'm not just trying to create a representation of the breed or a dog that looks similar. I'm trying to capture the little quirks and features that make that particular dog instantly recognisable to the people who love them. So Dot's one eye had to be just right.
I made her in silver, carefully working from Claire's photographs to capture her distinctive sitting position, her markings and, of course, that very special face.
Then Dot was ready to go off to Claire, ready to become a birthday surprise for Kate.

I love hearing that people can recognise the dog straight away.
Because that's always the goal.
It's not enough for me to make a nice silver dog. I want the person receiving it to look at it and immediately think, “That's Dot!”
And with those spots, that funny sitting pose and her one very distinctive eye, there was never going to be any mistaking this little dog.
