A Friendship You Don't See Every Day
One of the things I love most about making bespoke jewellery is that every commission tells a completely different story.
When Kristina, who lives in New York, got in touch, she wasn't asking me to make a piece featuring just one much-loved pet. She wanted me to capture the two little companions who share her apartment, and even more unusually, share a wonderful friendship.
Her cat and rabbit are the very best of friends. I couldn't resist the challenge of bringing this unlikely duo to life in silver.
I handcrafted them from sterling silver and oxidised silver to create depth and contrast in their fur, then added tiny touches of warm rose gold to highlight their little pink noses and the rabbit's delicate ears. Those small details make such a difference, adding warmth and personality while keeping the piece elegant and timeless.
Designing two completely different animals to sit happily together in one necklace took careful thought. They needed to feel balanced as a composition while still looking unmistakably like themselves. I wanted anyone who knew them to recognise their individual personalities instantly, while also capturing the special bond they share.
Watching the necklace come together was such a joy. It felt like creating a tiny portrait of friendship, one that Kristina could wear every day.
"It looks fantastic, thank you so much!!!!!! I love it. It's absolutely beautiful."
Before I posted the necklace, I sent Kristina a preview. Her reply instantly made me smile:

When she received her necklace, she sent another lovely message that made all the hours at my workbench worthwhile.

Knowing that this little cat and rabbit now have a forever home around Kristina's neck is exactly why I love what I do. Every piece is about more than recreating an animal, it's about celebrating the relationships that make our lives richer, whether they're between people and pets... or, in this case, between a cat and a rabbit who became the very best of friends.
