Bob: A Dog With His Own Business!

Bob's story began with a husband planning a birthday surprise for his wife Sharon.

When Gareth first emailed me about his dog Bob, one detail immediately made me smile. Bob isn’t just a much-loved family dog, he has his own dog emporium, run by Gareth and his wife on his behalf. You can find him on Instagram @bemorebob, where his adventures and shop updates are shared with a lovely community of fellow dog lovers.

Gareth described him as a Borderdoodle, a Border Collie and Poodle cross. Bob had that intelligent collie expression paired with the softer, slightly scruffy charm of a poodle. In short, he was irresistible.

There was another meaningful detail woven into this commission. It had recently been their 7 year 'copper' wedding anniversary, and Gareth wondered if copper could feature in the piece as a subtle nod to that milestone. I loved that idea. Jewellery becomes even more special when it carries layers of meaning.

I created Bob in sterling silver, shaping his distinctive outline and carefully engraving the detail of his coat to reflect that Border Collie and Poodle mix. A subtle touch of copper was incorporated into the rose gold plating of the design, not overpowering, but present enough to quietly mark the anniversary.

When the necklace left my workbench, I hoped it would feel as joyful to wear as it had been to create.

Some time later, I received the loveliest message, this time from Sharon:

“What a wonderful gift! I was lucky enough to receive this beautiful necklace for my birthday and it's now one of my most treasured possessions. My beautiful Bob now travels with me everywhere, both in pawson and in silver!”

There is something incredibly special about knowing a piece you’ve made has become someone’s most treasured possession. And when it features a dog who has his own shop and community following, that makes it even sweeter.

I loved creating Bob. He carries that perfect mix of personality and presence, and translating that into silver was a genuine pleasure.
