Dog Memorial Charm Bracelet in Silver and Rose Gold: Rupert
When Nicola first contacted me, she had seen my work on TikTok and wanted to talk about having a custom piece of jewellery made of her beautiful dog, Rupert. Sadly, Rupert had died when he was only 11 months old.
Eleven months. He was still a baby, with so much life ahead of him. And yet, in that short time, he had made such an enormous impression on Nicola that even writing about him brought her to tears.
Nicola told me that she had fostered hundreds of dogs, but Rupert was something special. She wanted a piece of jewellery she could wear every day, ideally a bracelet, that would keep him close and represent his strength and amazing character.
I think there is something particularly heartbreaking about losing a dog so young. You don't just miss the dog you knew, you miss all the years you thought you would have together, too.
We talked about creating a bracelet with a custom charm of Rupert's head, something Nicola could carry with her every day.
I made Rupert's head charm from silver, using rose gold to add warmth and bring out the details that would help capture his face.
With custom pet jewellery, the aim is never simply to make something that looks like a particular breed. It's about picking out the details that make that individual dog instantly recognisable.
I can’t thank you enough, I absolutely adore my bracelet. You have captured his beautiful spirit and it’s so lovely to have him with me everyday ❤️
And with Rupert, his expression was such an important part of that. When Nicola received her bracelet, her message made me smile.
“I can’t thank you enough, I absolutely adore my bracelet. You have captured his beautiful spirit and it’s so lovely to have him with me everyday ❤️”
That is exactly what I hope to achieve when I make a piece like this. Not just a likeness, but something that helps someone feel close to a dog who has left a huge space in their life.
Rupert may have had a very short life, but he clearly left a huge mark on Nicola's heart. Now she has a little piece of him to wear every day, made in silver and rose gold, keeping his beautiful spirit close.
If you would like to have your own dog recreated in silver, even from older photographs, I would love to see them. You can read more about my process here: Custom Pet Jewellery.
Who knows? Your precious friend might just be the next one I’m smiling about at my workbench.
