Custom Silver and Rose Gold Dog Necklace From Photos
Sometimes the loveliest custom commissions are the ones that celebrate a dog who is still very much part of the family.
Chris got in touch because he wanted to surprise his wife with a very personal gift: a necklace featuring their much-loved dog.
Rather than choosing a generic dog design, he wanted something that actually looked like their own four-legged family member. And that's exactly what I love about making custom pet jewellery.
We decided on a sitting pose, with the dog facing straight forward. I think there's something particularly lovely about this position. It gives you a proper view of the face and expression, and there's nowhere to hide those little details that make each dog unique.
I made the necklace from sterling silver, building up the shape and features to capture the dog's character. Then I added rose gold to recreate the brown markings in the coat.
The combination of silver and rose gold works beautifully together. The silver provides the main shape and structure, while those little touches of warm colour bring the markings to life.
One of my favourite parts of making these commissions is seeing how a photograph can be translated into something completely different. I'm not trying to make a perfect illustration of a dog. I'm trying to create a piece of jewellery that makes the owner look at it and immediately think, that's my dog!
And because this dog is still happily enjoying life with Chris and his wife, this necklace is all about celebrating the bond they share right now.
I think we sometimes get so caught up in making keepsakes after our pets have gone that we forget how lovely it is to celebrate them while they're still here. The walks, the funny habits, the familiar face waiting at the door and all those everyday moments that make them such an important part of our lives.
Chris chose a thoughtful way to celebrate that relationship and give his wife something truly personal.
If you would like to have your own dog recreated in silver, even from older photographs, I would love to see them. You can read more about my process here: Custom Dog Jewellery.
Who knows? Your precious friend might just be the next one I’m smiling about at my workbench.
