Silver West Highland Terrier Cufflinks: Oscar & Rocco
When Scott was marrying his partner Calum on the 3rd of October, he wanted to give him something really personal to wear on their wedding day. Something that would remind Calum of two very important members of their family. Their two West Highland Terriers, Oscar and Rocco.
Scott sent me photographs of both dogs and asked me to turn them into a pair of custom cufflinks for Callum. I loved the idea straight away. Cufflinks are such a lovely way to include a little bit of your everyday life in a wedding, especially when that everyday life includes two much-loved dogs.
Oscar is 11 and has those lovely little pink areas around his ears and muzzle that give his face so much character. Rocco, at just 11 months old, is still very much the puppy of the family. Two Westies, but at completely different stages of life.
When I make custom dog jewellery from photographs, it's always the little details that make the difference. With Oscar, I wanted to make sure I captured those subtle pink areas around his ears and muzzle, so I added a touch of rose gold to the sterling silver.
That tiny bit of colour helps bring his face to life and makes the cufflink unmistakably Oscar.
Rocco was the youngster, with all the character and puppyishness you would expect from an 11-month-old Westie. I created both dogs in sterling silver, keeping their individual features and expressions as true to the photographs as possible.
I really love making pieces like these because they don't just become jewellery. They become part of a very specific moment in someone's life.
Scott and Calum's wedding day was about the two of them, of course, but their dogs are part of their family too. So having Oscar and Rocco there in silver, tucked into a pair of cufflinks, meant they could be included in the day in their own little way.
And I think that's one of the loveliest things about custom jewellery. It doesn't have to be something you wear every day. Sometimes it's about creating something for a particular occasion, something that holds a little piece of the people, places and animals that matter most.
For Calum & Scott, on their wedding day, that meant having Oscar and Rocco with them too.
