Ralphi: A Very Special Little Pug Cross
Some dogs have a little feature that makes them instantly recognisable, and for Ralphi, it was definitely his distinctive curly tail.
Ralphi was a Pug cross, and he had such a lovely characterful look. That curly tail was one of those little details that I knew had to be captured in the finished piece.
I made his necklace from silver, rose gold and 22 carat gold, using the different finishes to recreate his colouring and bring his little portrait to life.
I love combining different metals and finishes in my custom work because it allows me to pick out the details that make each dog unique. A touch of rose gold here, some 22 carat gold there, and suddenly the piece starts to look unmistakably like the dog in the photographs.
There was another special detail the customer asked me to add too. A little Ralphi name tag, which I hand engraved myself. I think details like this make a custom piece even more personal. It's not just a necklace featuring a much-loved dog, it has his actual name engraved by hand alongside his portrait.
And of course, that curly tail had to be there.
When I'm making these pieces, I'm always looking for those little quirks that someone who knows the dog would recognise immediately. It might be an unusual ear, a funny sitting position, a particular marking or, in Ralphi's case, that wonderful curly tail.
Because that's what makes custom jewellery so special. It's not just a Pug cross. It's Ralphi
